Climate Data Analysis: New Challenges

Abstract : Climate simulation data are used by a large number of climate science researchers, but also by researchers from other scientific domains that are impacted by climate change. Uncertainties are an inherent part of a climate simulation. Consequently, a large ensemble of climate simulations is needed to assess properly those uncertainties, which requires very large data volumes of several Tb. It is no longer possible for researchers to download and then analyze locally all required data. European and International collaborations are currently taking place to overcome this challenge by working together to design and implement solutions.

Bio : Christian Pagé is a research engineer at CERFACS. Christian has been active in research and development on several domains covering a large spectrum of atmospheric sciences. He has been involved in many large projects. He is currently involved in improving access to large data volumes for use within the climate community, through several projects, notably EUDAT, IS-ENES and IS-ENES2. He is also involved in the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) Compute Working Expert team, on providing data processing near the data storage for large data volumes in a federated infrastructure.
