Virtualization

Virtualization on high performance compute clusters with PCOCC
Francois DIAKHATE, research engineer, CEA

Abstract : As high performance computing is being adopted by a wider and wider range of researchers from all scientific fields, compute centers need to become more flexible to handle new use cases, applications or software environments. In this talk, we propose to make use of virtualization to bring some of this additional flexibility to supercomputers.

We present PCOCC (Private Cloud On a Compute Cluster, pronounced like “peacock”), a tool which allows users of a HPC cluster to host their own clusters of virtual machines on compute nodes, alongside regular jobs. This allows users to fully customize their software environments for development, testing, or facilitating application deployment.

Biography: Dr. François Diakhaté is a research engineer at CEA. He works on systems software for supercomputers and is part of the team in charge of CEA's TGCC and Tera computing centers.
