Scientific and Technical Committee

January, 2012

TERATEC's Scientific and Technical Committee was created in 2010 with the purpose of advising the association on the broad scientific and technological guidelines in the HPC field and to help it describe the interest of national and international initiatives, as well as on the partnerships in which the TERATEC association could participate.

The scientific committee members are:

  • Bernard DESCOMPS, Académie des Technologies
  • Charbel FARHAT, Université de Stanford
  • Olivier PIRONNEAU, Université Paris 6
  • Catherine RIVIERE, GENCI
  • Marie-Christine SAWLEY, INTEL

The Committee is chaired by Christian Saguez.

The Committee met twice in 2011, in January and September. During these meetings, the Committee examined all the actions taken by TERATEC and the considered projects.

It emphasized in particular the major importance of high performance computing training and of the related tools, and recommended strengthening the considered actions, notably through the implementation of a true international dimension, with priority given to collaborative European actions.

The problems experienced in terms of managing very large data volumes are becoming increasing difficult to handle, and this subject (Big Data), must be taken into account by the association. The Committee recommended beginning a specific study on the actions that could be conducted within the framework of TERATEC, with its most directly concerned members.

In the same manner, the Committee noted the importance of co-design approaches that should lead to beginning collaborative research projects that associate industrial users and technology providers.
