The year 2013 was witness to major development efforts in high performance computing, and a preliminary assessment can be established now at the end of 2014.

In France, the French Supercomputers Plan of "the New Face of Industry in France" for which I am responsible, was submitted to and validated at the highest level of the State. This plan includes four components: technologies for exaflops and new hardware and software architectures, development of new applications sectors, spreading of digital simulation into small-sized businesses and industries, training.

This year, several operations have already begun including that at the service of future hardware technologies, under the leadership of the CEA. With regards to the development of new applications sectors, extremely promising avenues have been identified and a call for projects is going to be issued in the upcoming days coming from the France's General Investment Commission and the Ministry of the Economy, Industry and Digital. To spread the use of HPC in small and medium-sized companies, we responded to a call for expression of interest from the General Investment Commission. Efforts should therefore start on this component in 2015 as well as the component on training.

The Public-Private Partnership agreement signed in December 2013 between the European Commission and the ETP4HPC platform resulted in the holding of a first public session in April of this year in order to gain support from the largest number in Europe. This initiative, of which Teratec and its members are at the origin, will make it possible to have €700 million available in grants over five years in the framework of the European Commission's Horizon 2020 program.

With regards to Teratec's recurring efforts, note that our annual Forum continues to grow in terms of participants, exhibitors and media coverage. This Forum has now become one of the largest events in Europe dedicated to high performance computing.

The Association has expanded with new members (Cray, Numscale, Paratools, Seagate) and new players have joined the Teratec Technopole. It is important to note that this technology cluster this year received several Training workshops organized by the members of Teratec. This activity is poised to take on great momentum in 2015 and encourage the visibility and the attractiveness of the Teratec Campus.

As such, the year 2014 was a particularly favorable year for the development of HPC. With you, I hope that 2015 will allow us to push forward into new steps and I wish you an excellent holiday season.

BE a Sponsor or Exhibitor at the TERATEC Forum 2015 - 10th Anniversary
On June 23-24, 2015, TERATEC will celebrate its tenth anniversary by bringing together at the Ecole Polytechnique more than 1,200 professionals, decision-makers and experts in the fields of HPC, Big Data and Digital Simulation, stemming from the industrial and technological worlds and from the world of research, around these major technological and economic issues.

The participation and testimonials from major industrial firms, the presentations of leading tech companies in the field, the diversity and the level of the technical workshops, the representativeness of the exhibitors and the innovation of the offers presented, illustrate the technological and industrial dynamics at work in digital simulation and the major role that France plays in this field. The TERATEC Forum if the leading event in Europe for all those who are concerned with high-performance digital simulation.

On Tuesday, June 23, the Plenary Sessions will focus on the technological challenges in high-performance digital simulation and on the diversity in the uses for high performance computing. On Wednesday, June 24, technical workshops will take stock of the emerging technologies and in new application sectors for HPC. On June 23 and 24, an exhibit of about eighty booths will bring together the main players in HPC. Manufactures and publishers, suppliers and integrators of hardware, software and service solutions, universities and research laboratories, competitiveness clusters and public organizations, will present their latest innovations in terms of high performance digital simulation

Become a TERATEC 2015 sponsor. By becoming a TERATEC Forum 2014 sponsor and being involved in our marketing actions, you will be able to get the word out and create a positive image for your company with many players in the HPC sector BEFORE, DURING and AFTER the Forum.

French Supercomputers Plan - Digital technologies for plants
In the framework of the "Sector Applications" aspect dedicated to digital technologies for plants of the industrial "Supercomputing" plan, major initial actions have been launched.

At the Open Agrifood on November 22, 2014, the creation in Orléans of a "Digital Valley for plants" was announced, an association and campus devoted to the development and the spreading of digital technologies for the entire plant chain and that brings together in one location: major players in the sector, from seed manufacturers to transformers, digital technology specialists and research laboratories. In the framework of the "PALM" project that groups together Limagrain, Axereal and CybeleTech and the laboratories of the University of Orléans and the Ecole Centrale Paris on the theme of modeling and simulation tools for major crops was retained during a call for "Investments in the Future" –DGE projects. These various initiatives will develop working closely with Teratec for the use of high performance computing and simulation tools.

Training Workshops run by the members of TERATEC - 1st half of 2015
Run by members of TERATEC, the purpose of these workshops is to present their latest software, hardware or service innovations, to provide concrete cases for their use in an industrial context and to accompany the participants in implementing them.

This is also an excellent opportunity to meet the Simulation and Big Data community within TERATEC's ecosystem.
