Workshop 6 - Wednesday, June 28, from 14h00 to 17h30
Big Data for materials sciences

Mathematical approaches for multiscale simulation in materials sciences
Claude LE BRIS, researcher, ECOLE NATIONALE DES PONTS ET CHAUSSEES and INRIA

Abstract : The talk will review  a porfolio of recent, diverse in nature, mathematical advances in the simulation of materials at different scales, with the specific long-term agenda of high-performance computing. The examples discussed in particular include: large scale simulation of mesoscopic systems out of equilibrium using stochastic dynamics (joint work with  CEA/DAM and Army Research Laboratory),  model reduction and a posteriori estimation on multiscale finite element techniques for porous media, splitting algorithms in use in NAMD for molecular biology, and neutronics using TRIPOLI.

Biography : Claude Le Bris is a civil engineer in chief, HdR from University Paris Dauphine. His applied mathematics works have primarily been devoted to the design and analysis of numerical approaches for Physics and Mechanics of materials. He holds a research position at Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées. He is the scientific leader of the project-team  MATHERIALS at INRIA, the activity of which is focused on multiscale numerical simulation of materials.
