Variational Quantum Eigensolvers (VQE) and Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithms (QAOA) can be used in conjunction with classical high performance computing for simulation purposes, e.g. in theoretical chemistry.
In this talk, recent developments in ion trap quantum computing are presented, which enable more and more of those theoretical considerations to be practically implemented.
