Interconnect

Boost HPC application performance thanks to hardware offload
Fabien LOCUSSOL, Interconnect Product Manager, ATOS

Abstract :  Tomorrows Exascale supercomputer systems will provide thousand times (1000x) higher performance level than current petascale supercomputers. This goal will be achieved through an explosion of the number of nodes/cores, of data volume and of data movements. For such, optimizing the network which is the backbone of the system becomes mandatory to increase global system performance to meet the exascale challenges. To boost the communication performance of High Performance Computing (HPC) applications, the new interconnection network developed by Atos for HPC, Bull eXascale Interconnect (BXI), provides full hardware offload of communications, and by such enable the CPUs to be fully dedicated to computational tasks while communications are independently managed by BXI.

Bio : Fabien Locussol is the Interconnect Product Manager for Extreme Computing at Atos. He joined Bull, now an Atos company, in 2000, and is in charge of interconnect offers, especially BXI (Bull eXascale Interconnect), for High Performance Computing. He began his career at Comtec Technologie as responsible for the design and implementation of microcontroller-based products. Then he worked for 16 years at BULL, first as a System and Network expert then as Product Manager. Fabien is a graduate of the Superior Institute of Marketing (ISM) and is an Engineer from Ecole Supérieure d'Ingénieurs de l'Université Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée (ESIPE-MLV), computing and networking speciality.
