HPC for sustainable development: the TechnipFMC example
By Alexandre Jean, HPC & AI Global Specialist, Microsoft, Jérôme Naturel, Transverse Engineering Manager, TechnipFMC and Olivier Caro, IT Specialist, TechnipFMC

To optimize the design and installation of subsea fields for its customers, TechnipFMC needs large and flexible computing resources.

The use of Cloud Computing, especially Azure, makes it possible to accelerate these optimizations while including the probabilistic aspect of weather data.

Result of these optimizations are time saving during construction phase, reduction of material usage, and a decrease of the energy required to implement the subsea field.

These advanced methodologies contribute to the economic transformation of subsea projects while being applicable to renewable energy infrastructures at sea, thus supporting the energy transition of TechnipFMC and its customers, with the goal of dividing by 2 its carbon emissions by 2030.

Biography  : Alexandre Jean is an Azure technical specialist at Microsoft. Through his expertise in HPC he works with clients in EMEA to provide customized HPC solutions in Azure/Cloud.
Biography  : Jérôme Naturel is transversal program manager at TechnipFMC. He coordinates digital transformation projects for flexible and umbilical product lines.
Biography  : Olivier Caro is an IT expert, seconded to the Engineering organization of the TechnipFMC group. As specialist in the modeling of physical phenomena, Olivier designed and implemented the solution allowing TechnipFMC engineers to simply carry out a large number of numerical simulations.
