HPC/HPDA Digital technologies at the heart of major economic, societal and environmental issues
With the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are facing one unprecedented situation. This has highlighted several fundamental issues that were, unfortunately not always fully appreciated until this period.
- The absolutely fundamental role of digital technologies to bring adapted solutions to new societal constraints (telemedicine, teleworking, etc.) and to analyze and better control these situations (digital modeling of the pandemic, etc.).
- The essential part that HPC/HPDA digital technologies will play for all economic sectors within vital recovery plans, to ensure our national sovereignty in strategic areas particularly.
- The role played by digital technologies in responding to the major challenges facing our society: environment and sustainable development, the ability to perform and produce in our countries under competitive conditions, our capacity for innovation while mastering technologies.
With such findings, Teratec and its members have strongly mobilized to propose major national initiatives to public authorities (health, materials, autonomous systems, natural resources, agri-food, quantum computing...), and to include our country in major European programs, including EuroHPC (Center of Competence, Centers of Excellence, European Federation of Industrial Users...).
This newsletter outlines the main actions in progress. Do not hesitate to remain in contact with your Teratec correspondents to participate in these actions or, to propose new themes. The Teratec Forum next October, 13-14 will be the occasion to take stock of all these initiatives.
France has the skills and the potential to meet the formidable challenges lying ahead. Teratec and its members are ready to actively contribute to all major digital technologies.

The French Competence Center of EuroHPC
Within the framework of the EuroHPC programme, the European Commission wishes to set up one "HPC Competence Center" in each country partner responsible for leading and coordinating actions at national and European level, in order to facilitate and increase the use of these technologies for companies as well as for the whole economy. The French proposal is coordinated by Teratec and its associates Cerfacs and GENCI. The center will be created on September 1st, 2020. |

Coordination of EuroHPC Competence Centers
The actions carried out by the various national competence centers are transversal and generic by nature. They are to be set up by each of the participating states in EuroHPC in adapted form. In this context, coordination between the various national competence centers is essential. Thanks to European partnerships and its involvement in the European centers of excellence, Teratec will actively participate in the coordination of the European network of centers of excellence, in order to ensure synergy as well as pooling the various experiences. |
