The Swedish Defence Research Agency, FOI, is an assignment-based authority under the Swedish Ministry of Defence with about 900 researchers. The department of aeronautics and systems integration spans the fields of aerodynamics, structures and materials, flight dynamics, control systems, navigation, acoustics and environmental aspects of aviation. It has a broad expertise in applications and software development in computational fluid dynamics (CFD code Edge), aerodynamic shape optimization based on CFD (AESOP), real-time simulations (AVALON, MERLIN), and structural dynamics (STRIPE).
FOI has a track record as a key player and provider of solutions to large scale real life industrial problems (SAAB, AIRBUS, ALENIA USAF Finish Airforce etc, Swedish Defence Materiel Adminstration FMV) as bilateral cooperations or as contrbutor in large EC funded consortia as MUSCA MAAXIMUS, JTI and others.
