STMicroelectronics is a European Semiconductor Company with net revenues of US$ 10.35 billion in 2010. The group has approximately 53,000 employees, 12 main manufacturing sites and advanced research and development centres in 10 countries.
The Company has particular strengths in Multimedia, Power, Connectivity and Sensing technologies and its sales - which includes wireless business conducted via ST-Ericsson, the 50/50 Joint Venture with Ericsson, - are well balanced among the industry’s major sectors: Telecom (30%), Automotive (18%), Consumer (10%), Computer (13%), Industrial (9%) and Distribution (20%)(1). ST has a strong focus on delivering solutions that help enrich people’s lives, make society work better, and protect the planet. The Company’s world-class products and technologies serve to:
enable the convergence of multimedia and communication in smart consumer devices that help people interact anywhere, anytime;
-
increase energy efficiency all along the energy chain, from power generation to distribution and consumption;
-
provide all aspects of data security and protection;
-
and contribute to helping people live longer and better by enabling emerging healthcare and wellness applications.
The Company draws on a rich pool of chip fabrication technologies, including advanced CMOS, mixed-signal, analog and power processes, and is a partner in the International Semiconductor Development Alliance (ISDA) for the development of next-generation CMOS technologies.
ST operates a worldwide network of front-end (wafer fabrication) and back-end (assembly and test and packaging) plants. ST’s principal wafer fabs are presently located in Agrate Brianza and Catania (Italy), Crolles, Rousset and Tours (France), and in Singapore. ST plays a key role in Europe’s advanced technology research programs such as FP7, CATRENE and ENIAC.
ST MICROELECTRONICS & TERATEC
The mobile and consumer market are driven by the growing demand for high-end value-added functionalities, broadband digital communications, gaming, augmented realities, video. These applications are extremely demanding for computational point of view. In this context, computing engine is moving from stand alone microprocessor to many cores architecture, and we can expect to have in 2020 30T Flops available in mobile multimedia applications.
STMicroelectronics and ST Ericsson in collaboration with ARM, are implementing advanced computing silicon systems solutions.
The role of STMicroelectronics will be to provide to the members of TERATEC the ST/STE computing solutions to contribute to breakthrough in HPC architecture. In fact The STE application processor family based on advanced ST’s CMOS silicon technologies is offering an optimal combination of highest mobile processing performance, advanced graphics cores and powerful multimedia at extreme power efficiency.
In turn ST/STE technologies and products (ultra low power CMOS, 3D integration, optical interconnect, computing architecture) may benefit from the synergies between the HPC and the mobile world to improve the design and the manufacturing of power efficient computing node.
