Pierre LAGIER, FUJITSU

High performance computing has been used for many years in many areas, for the benefit of scientists and industrial companies. However new HPC uses appear regularly, without our being aware of them, though they have a strong impact on our everyday lives. This presentation introduces some examples of HPC usage in our society, besides standard HPC applications in large centers and laboratories. Fujitsu’s vision is focused on the optimal utilization of available technologies to improve our lives, sometimes in very unexpected areas. Our mission is also to prepare the future and open up new implementations for scientific and technical computing, for a better society. The EXASCALE project, among others, contributes to this mission.

Pierre Lagier is Chief Technology Officer at Fujitsu Systems Europe. He joined Fujitsu in 1991, where he started in Japan on large vector computers. He is now involved, with his Toulouse team, in the development of future solutions for scientific and technical computing. He first entered IT in 1975, at a time when punched cards were the norm. He obtained his PhD in IT at the University Paul Sabatier of Toulouse. He worked for the Institut de Génie Logiciel in Paris, and then joined the design teams at SAT-Control, a company of the CNES group. He also worked at Alliant Computer in Boston (USA), where he was introduced to very large computers, before he finally joined Fujitsu
