TERATEC Forum 2013 Energy Efficiency of HPC systems Energy efficiency of HPC systems is the object of a number of studies, from the basic optimisation up to the most advanced developments of leading edge technologies. Power consumption remains one of the major hurdles on the way up to the exascale, and related studies tend to get more diversified, concerning the most elementary component -the processor- up to dynamic and quasi real-real time management of the whole system. In this session it was made a focus on the latest technology advances targeted for the largest HPC centres, on the techniques based on system software for power control and on the potential role played by the application layer. On this last point in particular, some of the latest research topics on power aware algorithms, characterisation techniques for energy profiling and load balancing methods were presented.
