Land Defense AI and Robustness
By Bruno Ricaud, Chief AI Officer, KNDS France

The conflict in Ukraine, through the paradigm shifts it has brought to light, is forcing us to make compromises regarding the AI we wish to integrate into land defense systems. Between pre-conflict technological directions and lessons learned from the conflict in Ukraine, our areas of focus are evolving. This presentation will address the need for robustness within the major technological effort that is embedded AI.

Biography: Bruno Ricaud is Chief AI Officer at KNDS France and its subsidiaries, where he coordinates artificial intelligence activities involving research, engineering, and IT, and leads the group’s AI strategy. He holds a Ph.D. in robotics from Mines ParisTech and has over ten years of experience in robotics, artificial intelligence, and autonomous systems. From scientific research to industrial applications, his work focuses in particular on human-robot collaboration, task simulation for robotics and AI, the conceptualization of autonomous ground robotics, and decision-making in uncertain environments. He regularly contributes to internal and academic projects, as well as initiatives for the armed forces and the DGA, on terrestrial robotics concepts, with a particular focus on robust autonomy and human-machine task sharing.
